Tuart and Canning are co-educational government
colleges that have provided pre-university studies
for local and international students since 1982.
Both are in Perth with Tuart College situated seven
kilometres north, and Canning College eight
kilometres south, of the city centre. Both Colleges are
10-15 minutes drive from central Perth.
Each College has an enrolment of approximately 1500
with up to 350 being international students. Over
4,500 international students have graduated from the
Colleges and gained places in universities
throughout Australia and in Singapore, Malaysia, the
USA, Canada, New Zealand and the UK.
The facilities and range of subjects offered by each
College are similar. The results achieved by each
College have been consistently high over a long
period of time.
The decision on which College to attend is left to
the student and his/her parents. Some students
select a College because they have family living
nearby or they have friends at that College.
Students and their families are invited to visit
each College prior to enrolment to assist in making
this decision.

Tuart College and Canning College are devoted to
helping students achieve their goals in education
and beyond. The academic staff are highly qualified
and have many years of experience teaching in their
specialist areas. Students’ attendance and
performance are closely monitored by class teachers
and the International Office staff. Studying with Australian students on the
university-style campuses is a real advantage and
helps prepare international students for university.
The Colleges believe that all students benefit from
small class sizes, so that academic staff can
provide more individual attention and support.
Class sizes are restricted to a maximum of 25,
except in special English classes, where the maximum
class size is 18.
Teaching styles focus on student-centred learning
and aim to develop students who are independent
learners ready for tertiary level education.
Teachers assist students complete these studies by
providing:
* class instruction, notes and individual
assistance on the course content,
* exercises and research assignments for
students to complete independently,
* assistance with study techniques,
* ideas on how to best use the recommended
textbooks, and
* the opportunity for students to ask questions
and discuss issues related to the course.
Some subjects, including the sciences, computing and
visual arts, have a significant practical
component.
The Colleges have the facilities and resources to
guarantee that all students can participate fully in
these activities.
